Moscow accuses the West of "stealing" its achievements in the Karabakh settlement

Baku / 24.10.22 / Turan: Russia is worried about the "unprecedented pressure from outside that fraternal Armenia is subjected to." This was stated on Monday by the press secretary of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

According to her, this is done to "damage the centuries-old ties" between the two countries and discredit Russia's policy in the region.

“Numerous foundations, NGOs and the media, acting at the behest of Washington and Brussels, are striving with a vengeance to plant anti-Russian sentiments in society.

We are convinced that attempts by external forces to quarrel Moscow and Yerevan will not be successful. We are determined to strengthen the strategic alliance and multifaceted cooperation with Armenia, which will allow us to jointly overcome the current challenges,”-  Zakharova said.

She went on to accuse Washington and Brussels of trying to push Russia out of the region.

“Our tripartite developments are being appropriated and distorted. Arrivals to Armenia by Western emissaries under the guise of the European Union, OSCE, and France have become more frequent. Hastily concocted initiatives are being promoted that do not take into account the interests of the entire population of the region. This is fraught with a disruption of the balance, which was achieved under difficult conditions on the basis of the agreements between the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia dated November 9, 2020.

In parallel, unsubstantiated accusations are being circulated that Moscow allegedly does not fulfill its security obligations to Armenia. In this regard, we would like to recall that it was our country that stopped the war in November 2020, sent peacekeepers who brought peace and stability to the region, and to this day makes a decisive contribution to the settlement of armed incidents between Baku and Yerevan. Attempts by external forces to achieve the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent are precisely aimed at destabilizing the South Caucasus,” she continued.

“At all levels, we continue to work with partners in the interests of a comprehensive normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including unblocking transport communications, delimitation of the border, agreeing on a peace treaty, solving humanitarian problems, and establishing a public and expert dialogue. At the same time, political will and the consent of both sides are necessary to achieve peace.

Russian President Putin invited Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan to Russia for the next trilateral summit, where it is planned to discuss the entire range of trilateral and bilateral issues,”- Zakharova concluded her comment on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry. -02D-
