Moscow disrupts Armenia's attempt to deploy international observers on the border with Azerbaijan
Baku/30.09.22/Turan: Observers of the CSTO countries may appear on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday. “The possibility of using CSTO observers is being discussed in order to create favorable conditions for the implementation of the agreements of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia.
In particular, the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and, in general, the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, including the signing of an appropriate agreement,” Lavrov said at a meeting of the heads of the secret services of the CIS countries in Moscow.
"The support of the CIS would be needed to resolve the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he said.
It should be reminded that earlier the French Defense Minister announced preparations for sending his observers to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This statement was made after Prime Minister Pashinyan's visit to Paris and during the visit of Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan to France.
Thus, Moscow is trying to prevent representatives of Western countries from coming to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Representatives of official Moscow have repeatedly spoken about the inadmissibility of this recently. Russia is also criticized by the involvement of the European Union and the United States in the settlement process, which was openly stated by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Goncharov.
Given that the initiative for the arrival of foreign observers comes from Armenia, this will in no way improve the already cold relations between Moscow and Yerevan. The public statements of Prime Minister Pashinyan that Russia is blocking the supply of weapons to Armenia, which paid millions of dollars for them a year and a half ago, do not contribute to improving relations either.--02B--
