«Musavat» announced the date of the rally of protest
"Musavat" party would appeal the CEC decision to refuse the registration of a campaign group "Respublika", said at today's press conference the leader of the party Arif Hajili. He also confirmed reports about the intention to hold a protest party against the amendments to the Constitution at a referendum on 26 September. "A protest rally will be held on September 17th or September 24 in Baku, and, if possible, in the regions of the country," said Hajili. According to him, before the campaign the public will be informed about the violations recorded before the referendum. It will also work actively in social networks with an appeal against the amendments. He called "political" solution to the CEC refusal to register the agitation group "Republic", in spite of the enormous amount of work to collect 41128 signatures of citizens across the country. Besides , the police and local authorities destroyed petitions with 3.000 signatures , and psychological and physical pressure was made on activists , he said.
The authorities have started another wave of pressure and repression against the opposition on the eve of the referendum. Many activists and politicians have been arrested, and measures against the convicted persons were tightened, for example Ali Insanov. "All this shows the reluctance of the authorities to have a discussion within its own society," said Hajili. "We intend to continue to convince the public that the constitutional amendments are aimed at strengthening the family rule in the country, rather than the development of democracy. The time will come, and those who are going to hold this illegal referendum, will answer before the law," said Hajili.-03C-
