Relatives of a resident of Dagestan arrested in Baku fear his extradition to Russia
Baku/03.09.18/Turan: A native of Dagestan, Rustam Amirov was detained at the request of Interpol on September 1 at the Baku airport when flying to Turkey. He left Dagestan in 2016, and for some time he lived in Azerbaijan, then moved to Ukraine, where he was legalized. Three months ago, he came to Azerbaijan for business, Turan was told by his relatives.
In Russia Amirov is accused of participating in a certain terrorist organization. According to relatives, Amirov "is being persecuted for relations with the former administration of Dagestan, which are being removed by the new authorities of the republic." Relatives believe that law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan can send Amirov to Russia bypassing extradition. The relatives believe that Amirov can be sent by an ordinary flight to Russia, and it can be presented as a "voluntary flight of a citizen to the Russian Federation," where he will be immediately arrested. The relatives do not know in which department Amirov is kept, and believe that he is still in the transport police of the Baku airport. They fear that not transferring Amirov into a temporary detention center and keeping him at the airport increases the risks of his secret transfer to Russian security forces. The state attorney does not provide any information to relatives. Rustam Amirov is engaged in business with construction materials. All his close friends doubt that he can have any relation to terrorist organizations and see it purely motives of political persecution. -06D--
