OMCT: Azerbaijani Authorities Ignore Calls to Release Political Prisoners
On the eve of the opening of the first European Games Azerbaijani authorities ignore calls from international organizations to release the arrested human rights activists and journalists. This is stated in the statement of OMCT (World Organization against Torture).
The statement pointed out that in the past year repression against civil society, NGOs and journalists intensified in Azerbaijan.
As a result of this repression, several human rights activists and journalists have been arrested on trumped-up charges.
The organization called on the representatives of all countries participating at the opening ceremony of the European Games to demand the release of all imprisoned journalists and human rights defenders.
The organization also condemned not letting the delegation of Amnesty International, the British journalist Emma Hughes and other media representatives to Baku.
OMCT condemned the repression against activists and journalists in Azerbaijan and called for their release. -16D-
