Opposition leaders condemns arrests of REAL activists
Baku/30.05.18/Turan: Leaders of opposition parties condemned arrests of REAL activists. Jamil Hasanli, chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), called the arrest of Azer Gasimli, the member of the Majlis of REAL, an indicator of the deplorable situation of the human rights situation. He called the unsanctioned charge of Gasimli not subordinating the police. Hasanli said that on May 28 during the action dedicated to the memory of the APR he was always near Gasimli and he did not commit any irregularities, did not rude to the policemen, and in general he is a polite intelligent person. Hasanli accused the authorities of mocking the memory of the founders of the APR, persecution of activists who celebrated the 100th anniversary of the republic.
The head of Musavat, Arif Hajili, also called the arrests of the activists who took part in the street march on the Republic Day, not respecting the values of the APR. Leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli accused the authorities of trying to establish a cemetery silence in the country. "But the high spirit and the number of people who celebrated the Day of the Republic in Europe, in Baku at the obelisk of the Declaration of Independence, and gathered at the actions in Novkhany, convinces that the authorities will not succeed," Kerimli wrote to facebook. -03D-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
