Peace efforts should take into account the interests of both Armenia and Azerbaijan – Russian Foreign Ministry
Baku/30.08.23/Turan: Moscow welcomes any initiatives that do not run counter to Russia's efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, do not duplicate or undermine them, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova stated at a briefing on Wednesday, commenting on the latest statements by French President Macron.
"France's activity in this area is well known. Within the framework of such mediation efforts, it is necessary to take into account the position of both sides of the conflict - both Armenia and Azerbaijan. And without this, it is not worth counting on any progress of the situation, which is already sufficiently heated," Zakharova said.
Earlier, President Macron said that he would launch a new diplomatic initiative to resolve the conflict in Karabakh. ---02D---

On Friday, the Baku Serious Crimes Court continued the proceedings in the case of opposition politician Tofiq Yagublu. Yagublu's lawyers requested the summons of additional witnesses, including members of the National Council of Democratic Forces, opposition activists, and Yagublu’s wife, Maya Yagublu. Contrary to the prosecution's claims that Yagublu was involved in handing over money to facilitate a visa for Elshan Huseynov in the Zabrat settlement, his lawyers argued that he was actually attending a National Council meeting in the Pirshaghi settlement at that time. Witnesses can confirm this. The court partially granted the request, deciding to call four additional witnesses. The next court session is scheduled for October 18.
