POLICE DENIES BEATING OF DEMONSTRATORS
The Baku Police Department denies beating of Rovshan Nasirli, who was detained during the protest action staged by Azadlig bloc on June 19, at the Sabail region police station No 9. Galib Ragimov, press officer of the Baku Main Police Department, refuted that Nasirli has been beaten by Major-General Yashar Aliyev, deputy chief of the Main Police Department. He has also refuted information that Nasirli has been threatened with planting of drugs at the police station. Nasirli has been penalized by 15 days of arrest and unlike other detainees, he was brought to the court hall handcuffed. The detainees, who were held in the police station together with Nasirli, confirmed that Nasirli has been severely beaten. Today Elchin Behbudov, chief of the Committee Against Tortures, will meet with five people arrested for joining the opposition demonstration. Nasirli criticized authorities in the online social networks. Last year he was interrogated by the security services for voting for Armenian singer at the Eurovision song contest
