Russia will not interfere in the conflict in Karabakh - military expert's opinion
Baku/31.10.20/Turan: Russia does not want to intervene in the military actions in Karabakh, because relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey are important for it, the Russian military expert said.
"I exclude Russian military participation. Azerbaijan is too important for Russia to start a war with it and with Turkey," retired lieutenant general, former head of the international treaty department of the Russian Defense Ministry, Yevgeny Buzhinsky, told Interfax.
Previously, the Armenian Prime Minister officially asked the President of Russia to begin urgently consultations on assistance; the Russian Foreign Ministry replied today that Russia would help if there were an attack on the territory of Armenia or a threat of such an attack.
Russia is still trying to maintain good relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, and is keeping neutrality.
Karabakh is an internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.
In the course of the Karabakh war, the sides have repeatedly announced artillery and missile strikes across the border, while Azerbaijan declares that it has every right to hit military targets on the territory of the Republic of Armenia if these targets threaten Azerbaijani territory, BBC reports. --0—
