Salome Zurabishvili - New President of Georgia
Baku / 29.11.18 / Turan: Salome Zurabishvili won the presidential elections in Georgia, according to the data of the Central Election Commission of the country after counting 100% of the votes.
Zurabishvili has 1.1 million votes (59.52%), and her opponent Grigol Vashadze has 780.6 thousand (40.48%).
Formally, Zurabishvili went to the polls as an independent candidate, but she was supported by the ruling party Georgian Dream.
Vashadze ran as a candidate from the United National Movement party.
November 28 was the second round of the presidential elections. In the first round a month ago, none of the candidates managed to get more than 50% of the vote.
A French citizen Salome Zurabishvili is the former Georgian Foreign Minister in the government of Mikhail Saakashvili. Subsequently, she left the Saakashvili team, moving to the camp of his opponents.
