Summit of Azerbaijan-Russia-Iran Expected August 8

The meeting of the Presidents of Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan is scheduled in Baku on August 8. This was reported by TASS, referring to the Deputy Iranian Foreign Minister Ibrahim Rahimpur.

Meanwhile, the head of Iran's MFA Javad Zarif, speaking at today’s meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian countries, said that Tehran favors a fair delimitation of the Caspian marine sectors.

"Delimitation of maritime sectors in the waters is one of the major disputes between the coastal states. Therefore, we must take into account the special geographical situation of the countries."

According to Zarif, a legal regime should be designed to ensure the interests of all the littoral states."

The key, he said, is security issues. "It is a recognized key aspect, that is, the use of the sea for peaceful purposes, the abandonment of the arms race, the guarantee of non-use of military force in relations, and the joint struggle against the threats are the elements that will ensure peace and stability in the region," he said.

The Iranian MFA also pointed out that there should be ‘sensitive and attentive approach to the use of the Caspian seabed for the transport of pollutants to the world markets.’   -02D-
