The arrested activists go on hunger strike (UPDATED)

Five young activists arrested  for participation in the protest on Fountain Square on  December 29 declared a hunger strike in protest against torture and inhuman treatment.

In particular, youth activist Orkhan Eyubzade was beaten, and during the day was handcuffed to a  heater radiator that was out of order, said mother  of Rahim Mammadov who  visited her son on December 31. According to her, there were signs of violence  on the hands and feet of a young man.

Mother demanded a clarification from the chief of the isolator , and he responded that her son  is "crazy." She reported that her son and other activists  have started a hunger strike. Mammadov said that the authorities are taking revenge on her son for participation in protests in Euromaydan and interview  to the Ukrainian channels in which he criticized the government of Azerbaijan ( Eyubzade studies in Kiev.)

Alovsat Sadigli, a father of the Tural Sadigli arrested for 17 days, reported that in addition to his son and Eyubzade, avid Hajibayli ( member of the party "Musavat ) , Samir Poladov ( non-party), and Alice Turkel (a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan) also joined the  hunger strike.

A.Sadygly  placed on the Facebook a note of his son which reads that  the arrested  are  kept in unheated cells where there is no water, they do not have the conditions  to  defend their rights, are not given even a pen and paper to write a formal complaint of the conditions of detention. It was also noted  about the use of torture against Eyubzade.

Due to  the  above-mentioned, these five young people  announced on 30 December  a hunger strike  demanding  to  stop torture, to create normal conditions  in the place of detention, to provide normal conditions for legal protection, and  to put an end to police abuses.

A protest action was held on December 29  due to bureaucratic arbitrariness, which caused self-immolation of the disabled Karabakh war veteran,  Zaur Hasanov. —06D--
