The Milli Mejlis adopted a statement on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the genocide of Azerbaijanis
Baku / 30.03.18 / Turan: A special meeting of Milli Majlis passed a statement on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis. According to historical information, on March 30 to April 3, 1918, armed groups of Dashnaktsutyun party and Baki Soviet, under the leadership of Stepan Shaumyan, committed mass slaughter of Azerbaijanis in the city of Baku and Baku Gubernia, as well as in Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Hajigabul, Salyan, Zangazur, Garabagh, Nakhchivan and other territories. According to official sources, about 12 thousand Azerbaijanis were killed as a result of the genocide, tens of thousands of people were missing.
On March 26, 1998, the late President Heydar Aliyev issued an order according to which March 31 was declared the Day of the Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
The Milli Mejlis statement says that 100 years have passed since the Bolshevik-Dashnak armed groups operating under the cover of the mandate of the Baku Council in March-April 1918 committed genocide against the Azerbaijani people with particular cruelty.
"At that time in the city of Baku, as well as other cities and towns that make up the Baku province, tens of thousands of civilians were destroyed on the basis of a religious and ethnic trait, settlements were destroyed, cultural monuments, mosques and cemeteries were destroyed. All this was done in the name of a fantastic idea about "Great Armenia". That period is the bloodiest page of stage-by-stage ethnic cleansing conducted by Armenian chauvinists against our people. The massacres that began in the Baku province were continued in Karabakh, Zangezur, Nakhchivan, Iran, Goychay. Hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were victims of the atrocities of Armenian chauvinists. "
The statement refers to the occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenians, the killing of people, and the torture of them.
The Milli Mejlis appealed to international organizations, to the states of the world. "Let the genocidal crimes against Azerbaijanis committed by the Armenian chauvinists and their patrons be recognized in the future. Let effective mechanisms of international law be created in the future, so as not to leave unpunished crimes of genocide. To prevent a new genocide against the Azerbaijani people, let them help in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the basis of norms and principles of international law, especially the main principle of inviolability of state borders and territorial integrity.
