The situation in Armenia remains tense
On January 16 the situation in Armenia remained tense, although no new protests were held in Gyumri and Yerevan. According to Armenian media, the public expects the country's response to its request for extradition the local Justice of the Russian soldier Permjakov, who killed on January 12 in Gyumri a family of six persons.
The situation calmed down after allegations that soldier was not taken to Russia, and he will be tried in Armenia, but this will be a visiting session of the Military Court of the Russian Federation.
Massive protests took place yesterday in Gyumri and Yerevan , and there were clashes of protesters with police. 14 people were injured, several thousand people tried to break through to the 102nd Russian military base, where Permjakov is kept.
The protesters demanded withdrawal of Russian troops from Armenia, they also tried to seize the Russian consulate in Gyumri, and attacked the Russian embassy in Yerevan. -02D-
