The Supreme Court upheld the decision to recover from the newspaper "Azadlig" penalty of 30 thousand manats

Azerbaijan's Supreme Court upheld the verdict obliging the newspaper "Azadlig" to pay the chief of Baku Metro Tagi Akhmedov a fine of 30 thousand manats.The lawsuit was on an article in the newspaper "Azadlig", published in the April issue under the headline "Tagi Akhmedov misappropriated 5-kopeck coins." The article pointed out that after the increase in the cost of travel on the subway from 15 to 20 kopecks there was a problem of surplus on travel cards.The paper concluded that the remains were misappropriated by the underground. 

Akhmedov demanded the newspaper a fine of 200 thousand manats for insulting the honor and dignity. The Yasamal court imposed sanctions in the amount of 30,000 manat, and Baku Court of Appeal upheld that decision.The acting editor of the newspaper "Azadlig" Rahim Hajiyev called the fine for the newspaper fantastic. This means another freezing of the salaries of the staff. "We see this as pressure from the authorities to silence the newspaper," Hajiyev said. He did not rule out the possibility of a public campaign to collect donations for the payment of the fine. In addition, the newspaper plans to start a journalistic investigation into corruption in the distribution outlets in the metro... Earlier the newspaper "Azadlig" and its reporter Ramin Deko were fined at 30,000 manats and 2,000 manats each on the suit of the owner of the Bina Mall Kabira Mamedova. -06D -
