"There is a positive movement in Armenian side's position" - Ilham Aliyev
Baku/12.07.23/Turan: Peace talks between Baku and Yerevan "revealed a certain shift of the Armenian side towards positivity," however, it is necessary to "transfer the principles stated in words into a concrete document". This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on July 12 at a government meeting dedicated to the socio-economic results of the first half of 2023.
"Our position on peace negotiations is clear, logical, based on international law. I believe that the peace treaty can be signed on these principles, on the basis of the norms and principles of international law. In any case, I think there are such opportunities. The latest negotiations and the upcoming high-level contacts in a few days are aimed at getting even closer to a peace agreement," Aliyev said.
However, according to him, "not everything depends" on the Azerbaijani side.
Armenia should also be ready for this and transfer the principles stated in words to paper, the Azerbaijani President noted.
"One of the last positive moments is that there is a tendfency towards positivity in the position of the Armenian side. If in October last year it recognized the territorial integrity, sovereignty and borders of Azerbaijan, then in May this year it went even further, officially recognizing the parameters of the territory of Azerbaijan, including Karabakh and enclave villages. This should be regarded as a positive fact. Now is the time for these same words to be fixed on paper, for signatures to be put and relations to be established. In any case, we will continue our efforts in this direction," Aliyev stressed. -06B-
