Ukraine applied for observer status in the Turkic Council
Baku/08.10.21/Turan: Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that “today Ukraine is in favor of obtaining observer status in the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (Turkic Council). This issue will be brought up on November 12 for discussion of the leaders of the summit of the Turkic Council," he at the discussions on the topic: "Diplomacy at the forefront of modern trends: bringing new content to international diplomacy" in one of the Lviv universities, Anadolu reports.
The head of Turkish diplomacy noted the importance of using mechanisms of regional cooperation, including at the level of organizations. He also drew attention to the differences in the approaches of countries advocating the formation of a set of rules on which to build a new world order.
“What kind of rules the talk is about? The West, China or Russia mean different ideas by this. It is important to come to a consensus on the minimum standards of international law, such as territorial integrity and human rights,” Cavusoglu said.
The Turkic Council was established on October 3, 2009 in Nakhichevan. The Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States is an international organization uniting modern Turkic states, the main goal of which is to develop comprehensive cooperation between member states.
Currently, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkey are full members of the Turkic Council, and Hungary is an observer member.
The 8th Turkish Council Summit will take place on November 12 in Istanbul, Turkey. At the summit, it is planned to rename the council to the Organization of Turkic-Speaking States. At the end of June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan announced that Turkmenistan is considering the possibility of joining the Turkish Council with a special status.—0—
