Umid Party Decides Not to Nominate Its Candidate for Elections on April 11
Baku / 11.02.18 / Turan: Umid Party refused to nominate its candidate for the early presidential elections in Azerbaijan, which are scheduled for April 11. This decision was made on February 10 by the Supreme Mejlis of the Umid Party.
"The authority to nominate a presidential candidate is held by the party congress. Our congress is scheduled for May 28. According to the charter, we will not be able to timely conduct an extraordinary congress within the framework of the election campaign for the presidential elections scheduled for April 11. Therefore, the Supreme Majlis decided not to participate in early elections," the party said.
At the same time, Umid refrained from giving a political assessment of the holding of early elections.
"Those who participate in the elections, and do not participate in them, have their arguments. Everyone, in his own way, is right. Although we do not participate in elections, we respect the opinion of everyone. Members of our party are free in their choice. They are independent in the decision to participate, or not participate in elections, for whom to vote or not to vote," it was informed.
Umid stands for dialogue between the authorities and the opposition in order to solve the problems facing the Azerbaijani state and people.
At the same time, the Supreme Majlis of the party called on the authorities to release all political prisoners for the forthcoming spring Novruz holiday.
Note that the leader of Umid Igbal Agazadeh ran for the post of head of state in the presidential elections of 2008 and 2013. and occupied respectively the 2nd and 3rd places.
(In 2008, the leading opposition forces did not participate in the elections).
It should be noted that on February 10, the Musavat party stated that it considers the extraordinary presidential elections in Azerbaijan illegal, and refused to participate in them.
The Movement for Democracy and Prosperity, and the NIDA Movement on February 10 also announced that they would not recognize the results of the early elections.
The National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan announced the boycott of the elections and decided to hold protests against them. The Republican Alternative movement also announced the non-recognition of the results of the early presidential elections. -06d--
