US and UK Representatives on Southern Gas Corridor Project
Baku / 30.05.18 / Turan: On the occasion of the opening of the traditional 25th Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition-Conference, the US and British Embassies organized a solemn reception on May 29.
Addressing the audience, the Envoy of the British Prime Minister, Baroness Nicholson said the United Kingdom is proud of direct investments in the economy, and in particular of the oil and gas sector. However, much remains to be done in this area.
According to Nicholson, over 500 British companies operate in Azerbaijan. She noted the opportunities for expanding cooperation, taking into account Azerbaijan's desire to diversify its economy.
In particular, the Baroness noted the potential for deepening ties in education, tourism, the agrarian sector, etc.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy, Sandra Oudkirk, expressed strong support from Washington for the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC).
"The aim of this project is to contribute to the energy security of Europe. I believe that in the near future we will celebrate the delivery of gas to Europe," Oudkirk said.
According to her, the project will stimulate regional cooperation. She expressed her hope that through this gas transportation system of the Mediterranean region, Iraq and others will increase exports to Europe.
The US will make it possible to successfully implement these issues, despite the fact that the US does not directly participate in the project. The US government, through various agencies is providing strong support to SGC.
The US, along with the support of SGC, is also ready to help strengthen economic integration in the Caspian region, she said. -03B-
