U.S. Embassy presents AMVER

  U.S. Embassy Baku Economic and Commercial Chief Carter Wilbur presented the U.S. Coast Guard Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue (AMVER) Award to the captain of the “Seacor Cougar,” a U.S. company ship operating out of Baku and supporting the offshore oil and gas industry, and to the director of the U.S. SEACOR Marine subsidiary in Azerbaijan, SEACOR AZ., LLC.

The AMVER ship safety and rescue programis a voluntary reportingnetwork usedaround the worldto arrange assistance for persons in distress at sea.AMVER Awards recognize vessels that volunteer to participate in the AMVER program.  In 2015 alone, the program helped save 432 lives.

At the award ceremony, Mr. Wilbur praised the “Seacor Cougar” for its dedication to promoting the safety of life and property at sea, highlighting the importance of preparedness in the event of an emergency.  The “Seacor Cougar” was the only 2016AMVER Award winner in Azerbaijan, and its voluntary participation in the AMVER program serves as an example of U.S.-Azerbaijan maritime safety cooperation and U.S. commercial engagement in the Caspian region.
