Reservations for Azerbaijan's victory

Baku/24.11.20/Turan: The results of the 44-day war in Garabagh are being discussed in the Azerbaijani society. Some people talk about the unconditional victory of Azerbaijan, others speak about the territory under Armenian control in the center of the country and call the victory a half-hearted one.

The chair of the “Akhrar” party and lawyer Vagif Hajibeyli believes that it is too early to celebrate victory until Azerbaijan has established its jurisdiction over all of Nagorno-Karabakh. In an interview with Turan, he said that the Statement signed on November 10 on the cessation of hostilities in not in Azerbaijan’s interest.

-Do you think that we have not won? Did not we achieve our goals in the war?

- While the euphoria is not over, few will agree with me. Ordinary people want to think that we have won. Let us remember: President I. Aliyev has repeatedly stated that the goal of Azerbaijan is to restore state sovereignty throughout the territory. However, Putin said that according to the Statement signed on November, the status quo is maintained in the Nagorno Karabakh, that is, an unrecognized state remains. In this case, the state sovereignty of Azerbaijan in this territory has not been restored. By denying this, we are deceiving ourselves.

- Will the Armenian armed forces leave the Nagorno Karabakh according to the Statement signed on November 10?

- They will not leave. The Armenian army was actually defeated. Now they declare their intention to create a new modern Karabakh army. In the current situation, we have very limited opportunities for military and diplomatic prevention of such an intention of the Armenians. Because now Russia is legitimate military force protecting the Armenians there, and it will continue to do so.

- Is there a legal basis for inviting Russian peacekeeping forces to Azerbaijan according to the Statement of November 10?

- There is no legal basis. If the Milli Majlis adopts a document that legitimizes the invitation of peacekeepers in any form, it will be a real betrayal. I am sure that the Statement signed on November 10 was adopted by Azerbaijan because of the request of the Armenians and pressure from Russia. Eventually, everything will be clear. Under pressure from the international community, an appropriate political and legal assessment of the occupation of a part of Azerbaijani land by Russia will be determined, in which case the occupier will at least not cross the boundaries of what is permitted. Remember has that Russia filled the Donbass with its weapons under the guise of humanitarian convoys. While using the silence of our government and the opposition, as well as political profanity, Russia has gone beyond the agreement of November 10 and strengthened its occupation.

- Will Azerbaijani refugees be able to return to Khankendi and other places in Garabagh, actually ruled by Armenians.

- Under the terms of the November 10 document, Azerbaijani refugees must return. Now, this item will remain on paper. In fact, these lands are legitimately occupied by Russia; this is confirmed by the ban on the entry of Turkish observers into Khankendi. The Lachin corridor remains a restricted area for Azerbaijanis and Turkish observers. While none of the 17 thousand Azerbaijani refugees from Khankendi can return there, 11 thousand Armenians who came from Armenia have settled in this city. –0—
