A preparatory meeting in the case of the deputy chairman of the "Muslim unity" Movement

On Tuesday, the Baku Serious Crimes Court chaired by  Mayila Bayramov held a preparatory meeting in the case of Elchin Gasimov,  the deputy chairman of the "Muslim unity"  Movement and 11 other believers.

Elchin Gasimov was arrested administratively for 30 days on November 6, 2015. Three weeks later, on  26 November  the  Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a special operation in Nardaran, arresting about 15 members of the Movement,  including its leader, Thale Bagirzade. They were accused of trying to seize power, terrorism and other serious crimes. At the end of the term of administrative detention, Gasimov  was accused of similar charges. On his  case has been arrested 10 people.

Today, in addition to  Gasimov before the  court were  Agha Yahyayev,  Mahir Gahramanov, Seyfaddin Shirvani, Ramil Aliyev, Farhad Muradov, Elgun Akhundov, Vusal Alish, Seymour Aslanov, Ali Shakhbazov, Amirali Aliyev and Isa Ibrahimov.

Before the meeting, Gasimov addressed the audience saying that the defendants not guilty. He said that the accused were not armed. "We have one weapon - our prayers," Gasimov said.

The judge scheduled a hearing on the merits on 30 December. At the end of the  trial  Gasimov  called on the judge  to ensure admission  of  all comers to the court hall  because there were empty seats. -36S-
