Appeals Court to Consider the Case of Human Rights Activist Amiraslanov
On November 2, the Shirvan Court of Appeal will consider the complaint of Ilham Amiraslanov. The Kura NGO civil society activist was sentenced to two years.
On September 13, Amiraslanov was convicted on charges of illegal possession of weapons (Article 221.1 of the Criminal Code) by the Sabirabad court.
He was arrested on June 8. During the trial, Amiraslanov and witnesses testified that the gun was planted on him. After his arrest, he was tortured and forced to confess. Doctors also confirmed that Amiraslanov had two ribs broken and an eardrum damaged.
International organizations believe Amiraslanov is a prisoner of conscience. -05D-
