Armed Assault on House of Mountain Jews Leader
There are no detainees on the fact of the armed robbery of the house of the head of the religious community of Mountain Jews, Boris Simanduyev. Turan was told by the Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Communities, Mubariz Gurbanli.
According to him, the law enforcement agencies in the Guba region consider the case of purely criminal character. Gurbanli said that the house had been stolen gold jewelry, which confirms the criminal nature of the incident. "The robbers were masked, but their voices pointed to the fact that they are local people," he added.
The police in the Guba region told Turan nothing about the motives of the crime. They said the investigation was ongoing.
"I regret that in relation to the head of a religious community such an action was committed. I strongly condemn this fact. Law enforcement agencies will disclose the crime and identify its causes," the head of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikh Pashazadeh told Turan.
Recall that on Saturday morning at the Simanduyev house in Krasnaya Sloboda near the town of Guba a group of masked men carried out an armed attack.
Simanduyev himself and his sister were physically assaulted. His sister was stabbed and hospitalized.
Law enforcement agencies have so far declined comment on the details. Note that this is the first such offense against the leaders of the Jewish community in his own house.
Now public attention is attracted not only to the fact of crime, but also to its motives. If it is determined that the attackers are relevant to some radical movement, the nature of the crime will be completely different.
Note that Krasnaya Sloboda is a large village in the north of Azerbaijan, historically densely populated by several thousand Mountain Jews. -05B04-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
