Brother of Murdered Raeel Rzayev Appointed to Ministry of Defense
Lieutenant Colonel Rafael Rzayev has been appointed Head of the Military Transportation Department of the Defense Ministry. He is the brother of the former commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces Lieutenant-General Raeel Rzayev, who was killed in February 2009.
According to the military expert Uzeyir Jaafarov, Rafael Rzayev once worked as a military commander in the Baku airport.
Interestingly, after the assassination of his brother, Rafael Rzayev was dismissed from the office of Military Conscription Commissar in Shamakhi and transferred to the reserve.

Raeel Rzayev was killed in the early morning of February 11, 2009 near his home, when he was going to work in his car. According to some reports, he was killed by a sniper, while in other reports the general was shot from a pistol. The authorities have not provided details of the crime.
