Court of Appeal Dismisses Appeals on Prolongation of Arrest of Faig Amirov and Fuad Ahmedli
The Baku Court of Appeal today rejected the appeal on the prolongation of the arrest of an activist of the Popular Front Party Fuad Ahmedli and the financial director of the newspaper Azadlig Faig Amirov until March 12.
The lawyer Aghil Lahijov in an interview with Turan called the extension of the arrest unreasonable. According to him, the Prosecutor's Office has not conducted any investigation.
“Everyone knows, including the investigation, that Faig Amirov has no relation to Fethullah Gülen,” said the lawyer.
According to him, the European Court of Human Rights has already begun to communicate the complaint about Amirov’s arrest. The government has to answer the questions posed by the ECHR before April 4.
At the same time, the defense has again submitted an application for Amirov’s release on bail during the investigation.
The lawyer for Fuad Ahmedli, Asabali Mustafayev also declared unfounded the content of his client's detention. Both lawyers point to health problems at their clients and the lack of conditions for their treatment in jail.
Recall that Ahmedli and Amirov were arrested in August 2016 on charges of having links with the Turkish preacher Gülen.
Ahmedli is charged with distributing personal data of subscribers of the Azerfon mobile telecom company where he worked.
Later, his case was joined in one proceeding with the case of Amirov, who was arrested on absurd charges of inciting religious hatred, as a representative of Gülen in Azerbaijan. -16B06-
