Deputies remembered the need to tighten control over social networks

Baku / 10.10.18 / Turan: On October 1, at the first meeting of the autumn session of the Azerbaijani parliament, deputies again called to establish control over social networks on the Internet. "The activities of social networks on the Internet in Azerbaijan should be regulated by law," MP Hikmet Mammadov said at the meeting. According to him, social networks are widely used by the population, therefore this sphere should be regulated taking into account the interests of information security. In turn, the deputy Zahid Oruj called to oppose those who conduct anti-Azerbaijani activities in social networks.

This is necessary, because social networks, and in particular youtube for popularity, are already superseding traditional media, including television. The number of users of "youtube" exceeds 1 billion. Taking it into account the state should express its interests using new mechanisms. "I believe that all structures of the Azerbaijani state should create profiles in social media, and conduct their propaganda through them," said Oruj.

He also suggested that the antiterrorist legislation should be revised in this context. At the same time, he proposed to equate to terrorism - the activities of those who, from abroad, "spew poison against Azerbaijan".

Head of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov supported him, proposing to develop a concept or a separate law on information security. In his opinion, the legal foundations of Internet media should be regulated by law. "This will help both the activities and financing of online media," Amashev said.

It should be noted that for several years now deputies and state officials of various levels periodically raise the issue of tightening control over social networks and the Internet as a whole. The main point of their speeches is not just to identify those who scold the authorities, but to block their access to the Internet, even if they are abroad. -16D-
