Elshad Abdullayev Appealed to Ilham Aliyev
The former Rector of the International University Elshad Abdullayev is ready to return to Baku for questioning on charges of bribing MP Gular Ahmedova for a parliamentary mandate. This is stated in the address from Abdullayev to President Ilham Aliyev.
However, to ensure his safety, he offers up an independent commission of inquiry. He is motivated by the fact that the prosecution, led by Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, has "no moral or legal right" to conduct an investigation, because the prosecution had not investigated the papers presented by Abdullayev.
Elshad Abdullayev said evidence of bias for the prosecutor was his last statement on claims to the former rector.
"That is why I ask you to set up an independent commission of inquiry. If it is created and my safety is guaranteed, I am ready to return to Azerbaijan and to cooperate fully with the investigation.
If pressure and persecution continue against me, I will have to abandon citizenship of Azerbaijan," wrote Abdullayev.
Finally, Abdullayev says that Gular Ahmedova, through Sevinj Babayeva, took $ 2 million from him to transfer to Ramiz Mehdiyev, the head of the Presidential Administration. "In return, she promised to elect me as deputy and return my brother alive and well.
However, she did not fulfill his promise, and when I asked for the money back, she threatened me with arrest and physical destruction," noted Abdullayev further.
All documents and reports of Ahmedova's illegal activity were timely presented to law enforcement and the administration of the President, but there was no response, wrote Abdullayev. -03D06-

For Elshan Hasanov, a 46-year-old man with severe hearing impairment (fourth-degree), what should have been a straightforward process to receive government-provided hearing aids has turned into a bureaucratic nightmare involving three healthcare agencies. As a result, Hasanov is forced to pay nearly 60 manats ($35) several times a year for what used to be a free service—a cost he says is untenable on his modest disability pension.
