Emin Milli’s Brother-in-law Released in Courtroom
Today the Baku Court of Grave Crimes completed the trial of Nazim Agabekov accused of illegal drug trade. He is a brother-in-law of the head of Meydan TV Emin Milli.
The court reclassified the charge into a softer article, appointing a conditional sentence.
The lawyer Adil Ismayilov asked the court to justify Agabekov, whose actions included no crime, and said the investigation was carried out with gross violations. After the detention pressure was put on Agabekov for purposes of giving a confession. He was threatened and promised problems for the members of his family. At the same time, he was forced to sign a petition to allocate a state attorney to him.
Agabekov himself said he was never a criminal. "I am a specialist of 20 years of experience. I have a sick child. I have never dealt with drugs and I never drank alcohol or smoked cigarettes. If the reason for my arrest is my close kinship with Emin Milli, then I do not have to do with his opposition activities. I have never been an oppositionist. I have always supported the state and regularly paid taxes," said Agabekov.
The judge Afgan Mammadov concluded that the detection of 6,013 grams of heroin on Agabekov, shown in the verdict, was confirmed during the trial. However, his acquisition of drugs for sale was not proved.
Therefore, the court reclassified the charge from Article 234.4.3 (illegal sale of drugs in large amounts) to 234.1 (illegal possession of drugs) and sentenced him to imprisonment for a term of three years. However, taking into account the mitigating circumstances, it applied Article 70 of the Criminal Code on conditional sentence with probation for 2 years.
Agabekov was released in the courtroom. -02D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
