Employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy Finally Visit Orhan Zeynalov
The staff from the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia visited Azerbaijani citizen Orkhan Zeynalov on October 22 held at the detention center in Moscow, He is accused of murdering a Muscovite, Yegor Shcherbakov in a resonant crime.
State agency AzerTAG reported, with reference to the embassy in Moscow, that consul Fuad Aliyev and counselor of the embassy Agalar Atamoglanov were admitted into the detention center in Moscow to meet with Zeynalov, who is suspected of committing a crime under Article 105, part 2 of the Criminal Code.
During the meeting, the embassy staff explained to Zeynalov his rights, and informed him that the Embassy has contracted attorney Victor Anikushin and translator D. Dadasheva to protect his interests.
Zeynalov reported he received physical pressure on the day of his arrest, and during his stay in jail he experienced unreasonably cruel and degrading treatment.
On behalf of the Embassy, lawyer Anikushin communicated with the media that included video footage and filed several motions to examine the accused for injuries and to start an official investigation into the physical force used against Zeynalo.
Zeynalov was informed the Embassy will continue to take measures to ensure that the investigation will be conducted objectively and that court proceedings are under the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, in accordance with relevant provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963 and the Consular Convention between Azerbaijan and Russia of 1995.
Recall that the Interior Ministry reported that during the arrest, Zeynalov said he killed Shcherbakov, but later Zeynalov refused to confess to the murder.
Shcherbakov's death caused riots in Moscow's Biryulyovo, where the largest shopping facilities are where immigrants from former USSR southern republics are located. -0 -
