From now on the Hajj only by Plane
This year Azerbaijani pilgrims will be able to go on the pilgrimage to Mecca only by plane, according to the Caucasus Muslims Department. The reason for the cancellation of Hajj by buses is the civil war in Syria. Flights from Azerbaijan to Mecca will begin October 12 and will last for a week. Hajj will end on Gurban Bayram on 25-26 October.
The authorities of Saudi Arabia have established a quota for Azerbaijani pilgrims to 2000 people.
The pilgrimage by plane is more expensive then by bus, at 3500 manat. Last year, up to 50% of pilgrims made Hajj by buses. What will be the price this year is not reported.

On December 25, an Embraer 190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL), on a Baku–Grozny flight, crashed near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Aktau, Ayxan Suleymanlı, stated that the plane had 67 people onboard, including crew members, 38 of whom died. According to him, 26 of the deceased were Azerbaijani citizens.
