Human rights organization condemned the verdict of E. Mamed
Baku / 19.10.20 / Turan: The Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners condemned the sentence to the human rights activist and editor of the Yukselish Namine website, Elchin Mamed, to imprison him for a period of 4 years on charges of theft and illegal possession of weapons.
The document states that the investigation and trial of Mamed were conducted with gross violations of procedural legislation, the defense's petitions were dismissed, and the evidence and testimony of witnesses were fabricated.
The Center found in violation of Article 6 (right to a fair trial), Art. 7 - (Punishment solely based on the law), Article 13 (right to an effective remedy) ECtHR.
“Elchin Mammad investigated a high-profile case of poisoning of the employee of the Anti-Corruption Department Emin Huseynov, which caused the death, which angered the retired Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov. In addition, being a candidate for deputy, Mammad published the facts of falsification of elections in Sumgayit,” said the head of the Center Elshan Hasanov.
According to him, there are currently six journalists and bloggers on the list of political prisoners.
However, two more journalists will be added to the list - the head of the Kavkaz news agency Mahmud Tagiyev and the employee of the youtube compromat TV broadcaster Zabida Jalilova.
“While state interests require the support of international organizations, the country's law enforcement agencies are acting with old threatening methods to the detriment of the country's authority,” Hasanov said.
The organization calls for the reform of the judicial and legal system and expresses the hope that with the final victory in the war to restore the territorial integrity of the country, all political prisoners will be released.
The Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners was founded by a group of former “prisoners of conscience” in October 2014. –06D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
