Jahangir Hajiyev to Appear before Court Together with Former MP
Baku / 10.16.18 / Turan: Former head of the board of the International Bank of Azerbaijan OJSC Jahangir Hajiyev, who is serving a sentence of 15 years in prison, will again appear in court in the near future. This time he will be tried along with the former Member of Parliament Dunyamin Khalilov and 18 others, reports Radio Azadlig.
Friends for many years, Hajiyev and Khalilov were previously brought to justice and sentenced to 15 and 13 years in prison, respectively.
The current criminal case is related to the activities of the Moscow branch of the IBA in the issuance of foreign loans. Preliminary investigation of the criminal case has been completed. The defendants and their lawyers have already read the case file. However, Hajiyev continues the study of the materials.
In the new case, Hajiyev is charged under Art. 179 (misappropriation), 193-1 (legalization of proceeds from crime), 213 (tax evasion) and 308 (abuse of office) of the Criminal Code.
According to the sister of the former head of the IBA, Amina Hajiyeva, her brother was given time to familiarize himself with the materials of the case until November 15. She noted that Hajiyev insisted on familiarizing himself with the 360-volume case completely. "However, he was not allowed to do that. Jahangir said that in this case, as in the previous one, there are many falsifications. Therefore, he wants to study the whole matter in detail," she noted.
According to her, Hajiyev considers the charges of tax evasion and misappropriation absurd. "Firstly, the Moscow branch had its own leadership. If they did not pay taxes, how could they work in Moscow for 15 years?
Or the laundering of "dirty money" ... After Jahangir"s arrest, offshore companies were investigated to check if he had something there or not. They found nothing. It"s just that Jahangir was chosen in order to blame all the problems of the country on him...," A. Hajiyeva said.
As for the British authorities to freeze the assets of the banker"s wife Zamira Hajiyeva, his sister claims he acquired this property at the expense of his private business, which is not related to the activities of the IBA.
* The National Crime Prevention Agency of the United Kingdom (NCA) froze the assets of the wife of the former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, Jahangir Hajiyev, Zamira, after her large expenses in a department store and the purchase of expensive real estate.
Questions to Zamira Hajiyeva arose after she spent about 16 million pounds sterling in the Harrods and bought property for more than 20 million pounds sterling in Great Britain. -06D--

November 8 is celebrated as Victory Day in Azerbaijan. In 2020, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity through a 44-day war and a one-day military operation in 2023. Although a ceasefire declaration was signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan has yet to be signed, even four years later.
