Kuru is deepened, but not where it should be
The Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES) started the works on deepening of the Kura river, Turan was told by the head of the regional NGO "Democracy Promotion", Emil Mammadov. However, according to him, these works are taking place t in the lower reaches of the river in Salyan region, where the bottom is deep enough.
Taking into account that the place of works is easily visible from the bridge on the road Alat-Astara, it appears that the MES just takes self-promotion. According to Mammadov, the deepening of the river in this part cannot prevent flood.
"These works are necessary in shallow waters, and not in the deep parts of the river," said Mammadov.
These measures are taken as part of the work to prevent the recurrence of spring floods of 2010, when high water flooded the eight low-lying areas of the country.
Then one of the reasons was a shallow depth of the river channel and its mouth at the confluence to the Caspian Sea. -06В-
