Letters to Seymour Hazy Did Not Reach Addressee
Baku / 10.11.18 / Turan: The "Letter to Seymour" public campaign, during which letters of support were sent to the imprisoned Azadlig newspaper observer and the Azerbaijan Hour TV program presenter, Seymour Hazi, has been completed.
However, the administration of prison number 17 did not pass him any letters. Turan was told by the journalist Nigar Hazy. In total, 133 letters from friends, colleagues and international organizations were sent to the journalist. His spouse considers illegal the ban on the transfer of letters containing the words of support for the journalist.
In turn, the public relations department of the Prison Service stated that the texts of letters, publications and other materials should be checked to see if they contain any information that could have a negative impact on the prisoner.
Recall that Hazy was arrested on August 29, 2014 and sentenced to five years on fabricated charges of hooliganism. Hazy denied the charges against him stating that he was being persecuted for journalistic and social activities. Human rights organizations recognize him as a political prisoner.
In addition to his journalistic work, Hazy was also involved in political activities and was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Majlis of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan. -16D-
