Media Review - December 13, 2018
The ceremony of commemoration of ex-President Heydar Aliyev, a look at the new terms for the appointment of rectors, and doubling the sale of the dollar in 2018 are the leading themes of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the commemoration ceremony of the ex-President, the late Heydar Aliyev, from the day of whose death 15 years have passed.
The author writes about the significance of Heydar Aliyev and his role in the development of Azerbaijan as a state. Further, the article refers to the recognition of Heydar Aliyev as the leader of the Oguz Turks - Mustafa Babacan from the Turkish city of Kayseri called him so.
The Musavat website talks about a new rule according to which university rectors are appointed for a term of 5 years. This item in the law "On education" adopted in 2009 has been forgotten for many years. Experts believe that the prolonged stay of one person at the post of university rector does not contribute to development. The current universities do not meet modern requirements, and one of the reasons for such stagnation is the permanent rector.
The website Modern.az writes about increasing dollar sales. Expert Rovshan Agaev notes that in 2018 compared with 2017, the volume of currency sales increased by 2 times. The total sales of currencies amounted to 3.375 billion dollars this year. This is the highest after the 2015 devaluation.
The expert believes that such a high demand for the dollar in conditions of economic stagnation, low economic activity, and the absence of real income growth is unrealistic. One of the main factors behind the popularity of the dollar is the rise in public sector spending, and especially investment spending.
