Media Review December 24, 2018
The successes of Azerbaijan, the refusal to support Ukraine in the UN, and the shortage of rental housing in the capital are the leading themes of today's media.
The Azerbaijan newspaper writes about the country's success in 2018. The author quotes from the speech by President Ilham Aliyev at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, where he called the outgoing year successful, because the dynamic development of the country was ensured. The article talks about major international oil and gas projects that are being successfully implemented, as well as the development of relations with the countries of the Muslim world, and the improvement of the social well-being of the population. The author also concerns the activities of the State Committee for Work with Religious Structures, which held about 550 events, the purpose of which is to prevent young people from joining various religious Mazhabs (directions) and sects.
The website Strateq.az writes that Azerbaijan did not support Ukraine in the UN. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the violation of human rights in the Crimea and Sevastopol - the occupied territories of Ukraine. 67 countries voted for, and 27 voted against. Turkey voted for, and Armenia was against. Azerbaijan for the second time did not take part in the voting in connection with Ukraine. The political analyst Shahin Jafarli believes that this is due to Russia, but there must be some limit in these fears. He believes that Ukraine and Azerbaijan have a similar situation, so they should support each other in this matter. We should not forget about GUAM and Karabakh, the political scientist believes.
The newspaper Yeni Musavat writes about the problems with rental housing. Such a problem arose after the demolition of old five-story buildings, whose residents are looking for temporary housing. As a result, rental housing has risen in price, and it has become difficult to find it, since rented apartments are being searched in the vicinity of the subway and main roads. In this issue, demand exceeds supply. The author notes that the currently offered apartments worth 300-400 manat have risen in price by 50 manat. Prices for rental housing, depending on the number of rooms, range from 250 to 600 manat. -0-
