N 12 jail prisoners complain of their administration
On behalf of 1,050 inmates of Prison N 12 an appeal has been directed to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov. The text messages came to Turan from the Public Alliance "No political prisoners in Azerbaijan."
The prisoners complain of lawlessness, arbitrariness, corruption, and torture in prison. They believe that their health and lives are in danger and ask to conduct an objective investigation and take appropriate action.
The appeal states that entering the jail, inmates in the quarantine period are required to perform forced labor. If you do not work, you have to pay a bribe of 300 manats. Those, who refuse, are subjected to torture.
For early release from quarantine, you have to pay 250-300 manats. A place in a low tier of the two-tier beds in the barracks is 200 manats. To call his family, he should give 5 manats plus 1 AZN per minute.
Commenting for Turan these complaints, Head of Public Relations of the Penitentiary Service Mehman Sadigov said he had no information on the subject and nature of the appeal.
However, he stressed that Prison N 12 has a strict regime, where previously convicted people and those sentenced for serious crimes serve their sentences.
"The prisoners have statutory rights and they can complain to the court's territorial jurisdiction," said Sadygov.-16B06-

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
