New streets numbers cause confusion
The signs with the names and numbers of streets in Baku are being changed. In many cases, the new numbers are not identical with the former. For example, in Khagani Street in the center of Baku, instead of the previous number 20, there appeared a signboard with a number 44.
These changes are continuing in other locations too. Tenants themselves know nothing about these changes. It is unclear how and where postmen will deliver mail; and what should be done with documents on which appears the previous address. There are no answers to all these questions.
"The identity card, military ID card and documents for the apartment - all the addresses that do not correspond with the new addresses. How will they be changed?" said one of the locals.
The State Committee on Property for a long time cannot explain the reason for these changes, but concluded that it has been done by order of the President with a view to streamlining the State Register of property. A spokesman hastened to add that the new signs meet European standards and necessary training has been conducted for the employees of the city departments.
Turan failed to get a clear answer from the Baku Mayor's Office. -03B-
