NIDA Activist Sentenced to 5.5 Years
On Monday, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes condemned an activist of the movement NIDA Elgiz Qahraman and sentenced him to 5.5 years in prison.
The court found him guilty of drug trafficking on a large scale.
In his last word the activist rejected the charges against him, claiming that he was convicted on political orders.
The defense plans to appeal the verdict.
Recall that Gahraman was arrested in August last year. According to his friends, the true reason for his arrest was a post on Facebook, where the activist commented ironically about the comparison of Ilham Aliyev's son with Shah Ismail.
Human rights organizations have recognized Gahraman a political prisoner. -36B-
