Ombudsman of the Russian Federation: Detention of Orkhan Zeynalov unreasonably harsh
The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Vladimir Lukin said he intends to monitor the detention of Orkhan Zeynalov, who is accused of the murder of Yegor Shcherbakov in Biryulevo.
Lukin said that the detention of the “Biryulevo killer" in Kolomna, near Moscow, was unnecessarily cruel.
“He made no resistance at this time, and it was certainly a serious error of internal affairs," said Lukin.
The Ombudsman said he intends to continue to prevent unjustified actions and violence against Zeynalov and check that the defendant has a lawyer, reports Interfax.
“According to my information, he is now under investigation and no violence is used against him, but I will check that," said the Commissioner for Human Rights.
In the alleged murderer of Shcherbakov, a 31-year-old citizen of Azerbaijan Orkhan Zeynalov, was arrested on October 15. In this case, it was reported that he had resisted the police. Three days later, on October 18, he was charged with murder.
First Zeynalov pleaded guilty, saying that he took a knife for self-defense and did not intend to kill anyone. However, later he changed his story and began to assert his innocence.
Meanwhile, the detention of a citizen of Azerbaijan caused a lot of discussion in the community. Experts called it “ostentatious" and Azerbaijani diplomats protested disregard of the presumption of innocence and the ill-treatment of the suspect.
However, the Investigation Committee considers the actions of the riot police justified.

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
