Only 60% of Journalists Work in Azerbaijan "Officially"
Only 60% of media professionals in Azerbaijan conclude labor contracts with employers. The rest of them work without contracts, evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Trade Union of Journalists of Azerbaijan among 62 media (30 newspapers, 8 news agencies, 10 news portals and 4 TV channels).
The medical insurance of employees is less than 5%.
Monthly income of the majority (87%) of journalists is 500-600 manat.
At 11% of journalists income is 700-800 manat and above. At the same time, the income of journalists in the regions is only 150-250 manat a month.
Among the problems of journalists the report mentioned the unsatisfactory work of the press services of various bodies, lack of health insurance, and poor protection of copyright.
In addition, the second devaluation of the manat at the end of the year also had a negative impact on the media.
The Trade Union of Journalists of Azerbaijan was established in the mid-1990s. It is headed by Mushfig Aleskerli, a member of the Press Council (the vast majority of which are pro-government media) and a member of the Supervisory Board for State Support to the Media. -06D-
