Parallel Minsk Group Will Meet in Strasbourg
In Strasbourg on 28-29 November, representatives of civil societies in Armenia and Azerbaijan will meet. The purpose of the meeting is to search and discuss ways to resolve the Karabakh conflict.
"The event will be held at the initiative of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly, with the support of the Council of Europe," said Arzu Abdullayeva, head of the NC HCA.
Eight people from Azerbaijan and Armenia will participate in the meeting, including experts, politicians, journalists, teachers and historians. Each delegation will include representatives from Armenian and Azerbaijani communities of Nagorno-Karabakh, she said, without noting specific names.
This format is informally called the "Parallel Minsk Group", which implies the involvement of the public in the discussion, and the search for ways to resolve the conflict. The discussions will result in the adoption a document with recommendations to the two governments, the international community, and the OSCE Minsk Group, said Abdullayeva.
She also noted that the participants of the upcoming discussions have met each other at various events in the Aland Islands, Tbilisi and other places.
"We hope that the initiatives and ideas of civil society will be productive and will give a positive result,” noted Abdullayeva. -03D-
