Press Review 02/18/2017

The meeting of the military leaders of the US and the Russian Federation in Baku, the country's financial situation, the problems with self-financing areas and treatment abroad are the leading topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan newspaper reflects on the reasons for the meeting of the military leaders of the US and the Russian Federation in Baku, regarding it as strengthening the image of Azerbaijan as a result of its independent policy.

It is also emphasized that recently Baku has been actively holding international events. Security in Azerbaijan is also indicated among the reasons.

The website Azadliq.info writes that AZN will plummet soon. In this regard, the arguments of the expert M. Talybly are given.  According to him, the recent appreciation of the manat is due to the fact that the dollar was put up for auction more than required. Now, the expert said the demand for dollars is not so high. However, with an increase in business activity, the demand will increase.

Echo has published an article about the regions of Azerbaijan lagging behind Baku. In 2017, more than 20 regions of the country have to move to self-financing. According to the materials of the Ministry of Finance, subsidies from the state budget to cover the local costs in 2017 will be reduced by 743.5 million manat (42.7%) to 997.7 million manat.

The economic crisis has hit the country's regions. The financial situation of areas leaves much to be desired. It is too early to talk about the self-financing of cities and regions of Azerbaijan.

Local authorities are accustomed to financing from the budget and do not even seek to develop anything. They do not even try to attract investors and entrepreneurs to develop investment policy.

The website Bizimyol.info writes about the problem of medical treatment abroad. The Ministry of Health Commission on Sending Citizens Abroad for Treatment sent only 4 of the 1,655 applicants abroad in 2016.

1,264 people were sent for treatment to different clinics of Azerbaijan, since their treatment within the country is possible. Another 204 people with a disability degree were sent to Turkey for treatment (children and elderly).
