Press Review 07.09. 2017

The results of the course of new reforms, low salaries in the regions, and the difficulties of re-conquest of lost markets are the leading topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan writes about the results of the course of new reforms. The author claims that the last two years have shown real results in the agrarian sector and the brand "Made in Azerbaijan", whose export to Europe, China and the United States has grown. The article also includes excerpts from the speech of President Ilham Aliyev in Lankaran on September 3.

The Echo published an article entitled "The government should not develop troubled sectors at the expense of the state budget". It will be extremely difficult for Azerbaijan to restore lost markets. Competition in the international market is very high. Of course, you can develop troubled industries for internal use, but the profits of enterprises will not be the same as before. Heavy and light industry has stood idle for many years in Azerbaijan, and knitting and metallurgical enterprises and oil machine construction have been lost. A huge production base has undergone crash and bankruptcy as a result of the collapse of the USSR. Until now, these industries are idle. It is worth noting that at present the government is trying to revive the light industry and launch the pharmaceutical industry. There is a certain work in the automotive industry together with foreign companies. But it is necessary to raise the fish industry and the food industry. The domestic market is full of imported products, while the country's resources allow it to occupy this niche with domestic goods, at least in the Azerbaijani market.

The Novoye Vremya published an article titled "When Will Worthy Salaries Appear in the Regions of Azerbaijan?" The article talks about the big difference between salaries in the regions and in the capital. According to statistics, the number of employees in Baku as of July 1, 2017 was 97.7 thousand people. According to the State Statistics Committee of Baku, 26.7 thousand of them work in the extractive industry, 48.1 thousand people - in the processing industry, 9 thousand people - in the production of electricity and gas, and 13.9 thousand people - in the water supply. In January-June of this year, the average monthly salary of hired workers in Baku increased by 8.3 percent to 1,481.1 manat year on year.
