Press Review 21 February 2018
The implementation of infrastructure projects in the Oguz region, the causes of divorce growth, and the injustice in tax payments are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the implementation of infrastructure projects in the Oguz district. The author says that in 7 villages of the district the reconstruction of the electric network is completed, and in 6 villages the work is still going on.
The construction of the administrative building of Oguz Electric Network, as well as the town"s substation has been completed. On the territory of the village of Mukas on the Dashagyl River, three small hydroelectric power stations are planned to be built.
Serious work has been carried out in the area of gasification of the district. The new gas pipelines are stretched to the villages Khachmaz-Gyshlag, Kemerli and Taifly and the town of Oguz. The question is solved with drinking water. This year, six villages will build sub-artesian wells. To protect against mudflows, river systems have been cleaned, protective dams have been built, and last year new mobile schools were built in the villages of Yemishanli, Khalkhal, and Garabaldir.
The website Azadliqinfo.az claims that there is an unfair tax system in Azerbaijan. Taxes are levied more on the poor than on the rich, the author believes. In the US, for example, more than 400 rich people appealed to the government with a request to increase their volume of tax payments. In Azerbaijan, on the contrary, the government is thinking out how to take all from the poor.
For example, recently the Ministry of Taxes announced that from now on poets and writers will pay taxes on earned money.
The newspaper Novoye Vremya writes about the growth of divorces in recent years. There were 9,067 divorces in Azerbaijan in 2010, 10,747 in 2011, 11,087 in 2012, 11,730 in 2013, 12,088 in 2014, 12,764 in 2015, 13,114 in 2016, and 14,514 in 2017.
Couples married for less than five years, that is, young families divorce more and more often. Of the total number of divorces in 2016, almost half - 6,146 fell on childless families. Among the reasons for the divorce is the influence of parents who interfere in the affairs of the newlyweds.

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
