Mass poisoning of cotton growers, increasing fines for traffic violations, and suicide of a 16-year-old girl in Bilasuvar are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the recent mass poisonings of cotton growers and about the investigation of what happened in the Imishli district. The article says the new Minister of Agriculture, Inam Kerimov, visited the areas in which the poisoning occurred and visited the victims. This issue is under the control of the head of state.
As you know, cotton is a technical plant and the use of chemicals against harmful insects is inevitable. Minister Kerimov noted that private companies and farmers are also responsible for the safety of workers.
The Minister noted that until July 1, the State Committee for Phytosanitary Control under the Ministry of Agriculture controls the import of medicinal products in the phytosanitary field. And from July 1 this function will be implemented by the Agency for Food Safety.
The website Bizimyol.info writes about an increase in the amount of fines for violations of traffic rules. These fines do not correspond to real incomes of the population and they are inadequate to the average monthly salary, the author writes. Thus, fines range from 10,000 to 4,000 manat.
The website Qafqaz.info writes about the suicide of 16-year-old Sakina in the village of Agalikend of the Bilasuvar district in May this year. Sakina herself prepared a video before committing suicide. The reason is unhappy love and a probable forced marriage. This is not just a tragic love, but a tough reality that young girls face in the districts.
The Coalition Against Poverty conducted monitoring in 2007-2008, as a result of which it was found out that the girl pupils of Grades 10-11 were caused to get married. -0---
