Religious Website Editor Charged
Baku / 25.12.19 / Turan: The investigation presented the journalist Polad Aslanov a new charge under Article 134 (threat to kill or cause serious bodily harm) of the Criminal Code.
The journalist’s wife Gulmira Aslanova wrote about this on her Facebook page. She considers the accusation far-fetched.
According to the spouse, the investigation claims that Aslanov threatened to kill another journalist. Due to the confidentiality of the investigation, she did not disclose the applicant's name. The incident allegedly took place in May of this year.
“So why didn’t he immediately complain about Polad? Why didn’t he complain in June, when Polad was detained?” Aslanov’s wife said.
She noted that she personally knows this person. When the court arrested Polad, the “victim” came to the courthouse for “support”.
“On the day of Polad’s detention, he sent his mother to us to express support,” Aslanova emphasizes.
Article 134 of the Criminal Code provides a fine of two thousand manats, or correctional labor for two years, or restriction of liberty for 2 years or imprisonment for the same period.
* Recall that the editor of the website xeberman.com Polad Aslanov was detained on June 12 and arrested for 4 months on charges of Article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code.
The investigation is conducted by the State Security Service. On October 5, the arrest period was extended for another 4 months.
Local and international organizations condemned the prosecution of Aslanov, believing that the publication of corruption in law enforcement agencies was the real reason for his arrest. -06B-
