Search for Missing Oil Workers Failed
The search for nine oil workers who went missing early in the morning on December 15, after the collapse of the overpass in the Garadagh district, was to no avail.
The search was unsuccessful, despite the involvement of all forces and resources of the Emergency Situations Ministry and SOCAR (10 ships, 3 helicopters, rescue service on the water and the Civil Defense Forces).
Recall that at 5 o'clock in the morning the overpass 150 meters long collapsed into the sea along with the residential booth, where 10 people were.
Only the body of Ilham Gafarov was found later.
The tragedy happened at the Oil and Gas Extracting Department (OGED) named after Narimanov, off the coast of the Garadagh district, 30 km south of Baku.
* In the last three years several tragic accidents have happened at this OGED.
On October 23, 2014 emergency area №441 collapsed during repair. The van located on it crashed into the sea and four oilmen were killed.
On November 6, 2014 an overpass 60 meters long between sites number 310 and 312 collapsed. As a result, four oilmen fell into the sea and two of them died.
The biggest tragedy in the history of SOCAR took place on December 4, 2015, when 30 oilmen were killed in the field Guneshli and three on the Oil Rocks. -71D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
