State Security Service Destroys Four Terrorists
Azerbaijan State Security Service (SSS) reported on February 1 on the destruction of four religious radicals suspected of terrorism and the arrest of another.
As it was informed by SSS, on January 31 there was an operation to detain citizens of Azerbaijan suspected of the preparation of a particularly serious crime, based on religious extremism. They were M. Ulubekov (nickname Abu Hamsa), G. Damirov (nickname Abdulgarib), F. Sadygov (nickname Abdulhalid), S. Mammadov (nickname Abdullah) and T. Almamedov.
During the operation Ulubekov, Almamedov, Damirov and Mammadov committed armed resistance, using machine guns and pistols, and were destroyed by return fire. F. Sadygov was detained.
According to the SSS, operative information was obtained that a group of religious extremists associated with foreign terrorist groups prepares acts of terrorism using explosives and various weapons in different areas of Azerbaijan.
Checking this information, SSS confirmed its validity and, in this regard, urgent operational measures were taken, according to the SSC report.
Where exactly the operation was carried out was not reported.
Over the past four months it is the fifth such operation of SSS against religious radicals.
So, two terrorists were killed and another was detained in the course of a special operation on October 26-27. Another militant was killed in a special operation in the village Duztahiroba near the border with Russia on November 25.
On December 1 at the shopping center Bina on the outskirts of the capital, Emin Jami Azizaga Oglu was shot dead, suspected of preparing a terrorist attack with a suicide bomber belt.
